Fe-deficiency is a worldwide problem, especially severe in calcareous soils. It is estimated that calcareous soils cover about 30% of world\u00b4s land surface. The most common practice employed to overcome Fe deficiency in plants is the application of synthetic Fe chelates, constitutedby aminopolycarboxylates (APCAs) compounds, such as ethylenediaminedi(o-hydroxyphenylacetic) acid (EDDHA). (\u2026) Thus, searching cheaper alternative pathways for producing environmental-friendly chelators for Fe fertilization is urgent and deserves further research.
